The blockbuster science exhibition Bug Lab opens at Auckland Zoo on Wednesday 20 December for a season – its first showing in Auckland, and its last before it tours overseas!
Bug Lab has been developed by New Zealand’s world-famous museum Te Papa, with the Academy Award-winning Weta Worskhop.
Featuring giant-scale bug models within four magical chambers, it's a spectacularly immersive and interactive experience, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn from the genius of bugs.
Enter the ‘operating theatre’ of the iridescent jewel wasp and witness her turn a cockroach into a zombie – to feed the kids of course.
Help the Japanese honeybees defeat the giant hornet, their greatest enemy. Test yourself against the bugs with games of skill – can you beat the orchid mantis’ lightning-fast reflexes?
The zoo is housing Bug Lab in a special new multi-purpose exhibition space. As well as experiencing Bug Lab, during its time here, visitors to the zoo can look forward to some up-close and personal daily keeper encounters with some very beautiful live bugs – including some of Aotearoa’s own unique invertebrates.
Auckland Zoo will also be hosting Bug Lates (R18) and Zoo Lates (all ages), a chance to visit this exhibition outside of our standard hours.
