A new exhibition exploring Kiwi artist Shane Hansen’s multi-cultural heritage will be on display at the Arataki Visitor Centre from 7 December 2017 until 4 February 2018.
The exhibition titled Nature Aotearoa is a collection of eight years’ worth of work, which is inspired by New Zealand’s flora and fauna as well as Shane’s love of the land and his journey to learn more about his cultural heritage.
“Each piece has a connection to me personally. It expresses the relationship I have with my different ethnicities and the love and respect I have for Aotearoa’s landscapes and wildlife.”
Shane, who is of Tainui, Ngāti Mahanga, Ngāti Hine, Chinese, Danish and Scottish descent, describes his work as contemporary Māori/New Zealand popular art.
“My work celebrates our rich natural heritage; from our flowing waterways carving their way to the sea, to our native forests continuously reaching for the sky, to our birds with their elegant beauty.”
Shane’s exhibition will be officially unveiled during a free public opening evening on 7 December 2017, 6pm-7.30pm, at the Arataki Visitor Centre.
