The 22nd annual Heroic Garden Festival will be taking place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 February 2018, as part of Auckland Pride Festival 2018.

The Heroic Gardens Festival was established to raise funds for Auckland City Mission’s Herne Bay House, which provided care and respite for people with HIV/AIDS. For 16 years, it showcased gay- and lesbian-owned gardens and the gardens' creators.

Each year, the festival includes a selection of new gardens along with a changing mix of modern and traditional gardens that have appeared in previous years. The festival now includes gardens created by both the GLBT community and other supporters of Hospice. Herne Bay House has since closed.

A major feature of the festival is that the owners/creators of the gardens are present for visitors to talk to and answer questions.

Proceeds from the 2018 festival will go to Mercy Hospice Auckland, which is a registered charity providing compassionate, specialist care to people who are dying, while supporting their families and whanau through the loss of a loved one. Hospices care for the whole person – their physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs.
