Through textile production techniques passed down from Quishile Charan’s aaji (grandmother), the artist recontextualises the role of the female Girmityas, bringing to light the significance of their roles and the indentured labour they endured.

Using repetition of archival images, Charan subverts the “record of power” to form connections with these women, creating a textile narrative of celebratory love.
