The Hague-based New Zealand conceptual artist Sonja van Kerkoff curates an interactive multimedia exhibition featuring the work of 18 artists from both Aotearoa and the Netherlands, exploring political, poetic, conceptual and visual approaches to the human condition from diverse cultural perspectives.
They use a wide range of media to look at today’s ‘big questions’ as an aesthetic exercise, so that the show as a whole creates an installation that evokes new stories and associations.
The artists featured are: Jess Paraone, Brit Bunkley, Virginia Guy, Alexis Hunter, Marianne Muggeridge, Roger Morris, Raewyn Turner, Brian Harris, Thom Vink, Pietertje van Splunter, Sanne Maes, Channa Boon, Anne Wellmer, Martje Zandboer, Sissel Marie Tonn, Yair Callender and Sonja van Kerkhoff.
Sunday’s opening event will kick off with an acoustic performance by accomplished singer-songwriters Mark Laurent and Brenda Liddiard.
The exhibition is part of Auckland Artweek and will include an extensive public programme of floor talks, free music events and poetry readings and a short art-film festival. See the Public Programmes page of Northart's website for details, dates and times.
