Governing Body meeting Inauguration information

The new councillor for Howick, Paul Young, will be sworn in by Mayor Phil Goff on Thursday 27 September at the meeting of the Auckland Council’s Governing Body.

Media wishing to attend the inauguration will need to be at the Town Hall by 9.15am at the latest (media are asked to please arrive promptly and allow time to set up).

The programme will include a Chinese cultural performance arranged by incoming Councillor Paul Young prior to the meeting (from approximately 9am), followed by the inauguration of Councillor Young and his maiden speech.

The remainder of the Governing Body meeting will be held after the inauguration (after morning tea). The meeting agenda can be found on the council’s website.

  • This will be delivered by Dean Martin, Principal Advisor Māori Relations and Governance, Te Waka Anga Mua ki Uta, Auckland Council
  • Opening karakia will be followed by a waiata.

Affirmation and apologies

  • Standard Governing Body agenda items

Swearing in of new Howick Councillor, Paul Young

  • Councillor Young will be invited by Mayor Phil Goff to a table in the middle of the room
  • Councillor Young will read and sign his declaration, which will be witnessed by the Mayor.
  • Council photographer to take photographs.
  • Mayor may invite others to take photographs.

Maiden speech

  • Councillor Young will be invited to deliver his maiden speech to the Governing Body.

Adjournment

  • Meeting will be adjourned for the Governing Body to meet Councillor Young and his family over morning tea.
  • Meeting is likely to resume at approximately 10.15am
