The positive contribution of locals to the Howick Local Board area was celebrated at the Citizen of the Year Award ceremony in late 2015.
The board acknowledged the efforts of all nominees and presented the overall Rotary Club of Botany East Tāmaki Citizen of the Year Award to community stalwart Hans Wang.
Hans volunteers for the Fo Guang Shan Temple, the Chinese Cancer Support Society, and the Asian Council on Reducing Crime.
His work on crime reduction includes presenting a Safety Ambassadors TV33 programme, workshops, bylaw trips and seminars.
He is also a member of the police advisory board and coordinates the local Foot Patrol team.
