The New Lynn library has received an upgrade to improve customers’ experience.

After a closure of three weeks, the library has reopened its doors to welcome the community with a refurbished interior.

The upgrade has created more space for customers to study, read, relax and to use personal digital devices and library computers.

There’s also more space for customers to participate in library events, including Makerspace activities and school holiday programmes.

Lighting has been raised to create a greater feeling of space, plus new carpet, paint and a new, smaller and more customer-friendly service desk all contribute to a better interior environment.

Upgrade to enable greater access

“The New Lynn library improvements are fantastic. Visiting the library is a more enjoyable experience with the new diagonal orientation of the book shelves. The changes make a real difference,” says Whau Local Board Chair Catherine Farmer.

“Our local board supports our libraries by funding expanded opening hours and now the upgrade will encourage even more people to access the wonderful resources our libraries offer.”

The library’s collection has also been organised in a new layout, including a new separate crime fiction section, which been very popular with customers. Crime is the most popular fiction genre in the library.

The computer section also has a new layout with more places for people to bring their own devices and lots more plugs to charge devices.

The children’s area features a new reading tree, which will be a focal point for parents and children – a place to gather and read together.

“The library definitely feels more spacious and lighter. There has already been a lot of positive feedback from customers and staff,” says Community Library Manager Niki Wright.
