In celebration of Matariki Festival 2016 Auckland Libraries has created a short video that tells the story of the dawning of the Māori new year. This story is one version of many different interpretations of Matariki.

Ripeka Read, Auckland Libraries digital content graduate said, "I was fortunate to collaborate with some extremely talented people on this project and work with other Māori who are passionate about storytelling."

A special mention to Parekura Pewhairangi (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu) who crafted the story and wrote the script, Matia Mitai-Ngatai (Te Arawa) who provided the audio track from the Rangiatea CD and Hawaiki Tū, a contemporary company of Māori performing artists who brought the story to life.
