The names of parks and four new bridges in the Alan Wood corridor of the Waterview Connection have been announced.
The Albert-Eden and Whau Local Boards decided on the names after a public consultation process.
Te reo names chosen
As a result the Alan Wood Reserve name was kept and te reo names have been chosen for what was informally known as Hendon Park (now Kūkūwai Park) and the four new bridges.
The new shared path bridge over SH20 is called Te Whitinga (the crossing).
The three pedestrian bridges under construction will be named Mokomoko (reflects the native copper skinks in the area), Raupo (named after the bulrushes found in wetlands) and Tuna Roa (long eel shape of the bridge).
The naming process was funded by Albert-Eden and Whau local boards.
Valonia stays
The Whau Local Board did not change the name of Valonia Reserve.
