New park and ride facility to be trialled in Takapuna

Publish Date : 25 Nov 2016

Auckland Transport and the Harbourside Church are working together to trial a new joint park and ride amenity on Esmonde Road, Takapuna.

The trial will involve the use of the Harbourside Church car park, which is underused on weekdays, and the installation of new temporary bus stops on Esmonde Road.

Wilson Parking has been engaged by the church to manage the day-to-day operation of the carpark.

Grant Gillon, Chairman of Devonport-Takapuna Local Board, says the trial is a great initiative and has the potential to reduce congestion.

“I hope our community will give it a go – a successful trial here will encourage other initiatives and the installation of more permanent facilities."

One-hundred parking bays will be available from the start of the trial and, if successful, up to 250 parking bays may be provided. They'll be available from 6am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

Parking rates will be set by Wilson Parking in agreement with Harbourside Church.

The new temporary bus stops will be on both sides of Esmonde Road near the Harbourside Church entrance. The trial will start on Monday 28 November and will run for six months.
