Auckland Council has started planning its 2017/2018 budget and is looking forward to hearing your feedback. Deputy Mayor and Franklin Ward Councillor Bill Cashmore looks at some wins for Franklin in 2016 and 2017.
Rural recycling
The introduction of the kerbside recycling collections last October is just one initiative the council introduced as part of its Waste Management and Minimisation Plan. In the past, rural residents took their recyclables to drop-off points, so the new service is much more convenient. From July, there will be a small increase in the waste targeted rate to reflect this. If you’re having issues with bins please call 09 301 0101 to let us know.
Waiuku Sports Park upgrade
The approval of a $1.2 million upgrade of the Waiuku Sports Park last year came after many years of discussion. As Waiuku’s main sports facility, the investment is needed to meet the demands of the growing community.
Pukekohe station upgrade
Another exciting project is the $15.4 million upgrade of Pukekohe train station, due for completion at the end of 2017. Work includes a new bus interchange and improved parking and access. This is partly funded through NZTA and the Interim Transport Levy.
