Muriwai Beach Campground reopens for Waitangi weekend

Nature lovers can now book to spend Waitangi weekend at one of Auckland’s most beautiful beaches with Muriwai Beach Motor Camp once again open for business.

Places are limited so keen campers should jump online or call to reserve a space at the newly refurbished campground, where arrivals will be welcomed from 2pm on Saturday 4 February.

“The campground is close to Auckland city, giving people from there a family-friendly campground without having to drive too far,” said Richard Hollier, Manager of Regional Parks at Auckland Council.

“The new buildings are spacious and modern with a focus on families. We hope the campground will be popular with locals and visitors alike,” Richard said.

Revamped facilities

The campground was temporarily closed during the colder months so improvements could be made, including a revamped barbecue area and a new fish cleaning station.

All buildings have been upgraded while showers, toilet, laundry and kitchen facilities have been modernised and designed to operate on a much more sustainable basis.

Iwi with interest in the Muriwai area were given the opportunity to feedback on the design of the site.

Panuku Development Auckland and Auckland Council worked together to upgrade the facilities in time for Waitangi weekend.
