Six new footpaths are being built in Huapai, Riverhead and Warkworth, with $1.5 million funding allocated by Rodney Local Board last year to expand the existing footpath network.
“Often roads double as footpaths and some of these roads are getting busier,” says Cameron Brewer, who chairs the Rodney Local Board Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee.
“The previous local board had to decide which footpaths to build first. Priority was given to busy school routes, well-used pedestrian routes and paths to new developments.”
In Warkworth, work is expected to start in April on a footpath on the north side of Hill Street (from 2 to 20a). On the south side of Hill Street and Falls Road, a new footpath between Albert Street and Hudson Road will connect this area to the new subdivision. Work is weather dependent and should be completed by the end of June.
In Riverhead, work is expected to start in April on a footpath on the south side of Elliot Street (from 1 to 31). Work is weather dependent and should take six weeks.
New footpaths will also be built at:
- Huapai: Tapu Road, (east side) from Maple Lane to Matua Road
- Riverhead: Princes Street, (north side) from Coatesville Riverhead Highway to Great North Road
- Warkworth: Kaspar Street (full length, both sides)
