Playground review: Accessible play for all at Western Park

We’re taking a look at some of Auckland's best playgrounds. This week: Western Park, Ponsonby Road/Beresford Street, Freemans Bay.

What’s on offer?

The new and improved Western Park playground is perfect for all ages – from toddlers through to mid-teens.

Redeveloped in 2016, features include a 25m slide – one of the highest and longest in Auckland – two slides great for racing, two treehouses, swings, a seesaw, balancing features, two small trampolines and a flying fox.

With fun and accessibility at its core, the lower level play area is suitable for wheelchairs and prams. The trampolines and carousel equipment are at ground level for easier access and there is also a wheelchair-friendly basket swing and spinning apparatus.

More to do

There are two tennis courts located next to a large green space, so pack the rackets and some balls for a quick game or two.

On-street parking, public toilets, a drinking fountain, picnic tables and seating are also available.
