Start date set for Kowhai Park upgrade

Publish Date : 05 May 2017
Kowhai Park

Facilities at Kowhai Park are getting an upgrade, with work now starting around 10 May. The later start date is the result of a busy construction industry. The upgrade includes:

  • a modular toilet with three unisex cubicles situated near the Matakana Road entrance
  • a new campervan dumping station located at the northern end of the new toilet
  • a sealed car park with 16 marked spaces
  • a grassed area for overflow parking to use during special events
  • a new concrete footbridge, as the old bridge’s steel beams are badly decayed
  • improving several footpaths and a new path leading to a safer pedestrian crossing point on Matakana Road.

The park’s new facilities have taken into account any possible future widening of Hill Street but the modular toilet can be moved if this becomes necessary.

Access restricted during construction

Access to Kowhai Park will be restricted during construction as follows:

8 May to 12 June only the car park’s southern area is open. Both the toilet block and campervan dump station are closed. The toilet will be demolished so work can start on the overflow parking area. People will be directed to the toilets at Warkworth Showgrounds and to campervan dump stations at Wellsford and Hatfields Beach.

13 June to 24 July the park closes and the entire area becomes a construction zone. There is no public access at all during this phase of construction.

Kowhai Park is expected to re-open by the end of July.

Public toilets at Warkworth Library and Leigh Hall

The public toilets next to the Warkworth Library and the Leigh Hall are also being refurbished in May.

Work is expected to take about eight weeks, with both toilets closed from 10 May until 7 July. Temporary toilets will be provided during this time. As space is limited next to the public toilets in Warkworth, several adjacent car parks are required in the short-term for the temporary toilets and construction access.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time. If you have any questions or for more information, please email cfenquiries@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
