In Swanson, study helps businesses prepare for growth

Publish Date : 26 Jul 2017

Swanson’s population is growing due to new housing developments being built.

Waitākere Ranges Local Board has completed a study that will help local businesses prepare for this growth.

The project was based on focus group meetings, and interviews with businesses and landlords.

“The process has been really valuable,” says Waitākere Ranges Local Board member and economic development lead Steve Tollestrup.

Among the report’s recommendations was the establishment of an informal business-led group to focus on actions that could be easily achieved to create momentum.

These might include working with Fletcher Living to develop a business welcome letter for new residents and working with Celebrating Swanson to incorporate a business element within their website.

The report also recommends that the local board work with Auckland Transport to highlight issues raised, including whether public on-street parking time restrictions are needed, intersection safety issues, whether improvements are required on pedestrian links and the feasibility of additional directional signage to Swanson’s centre.

Investigating options for project support to carry out agreed actions is also proposed. For more information, contact Waitākere Ranges Local Board by calling 09 813 9150.
