It isn’t every day you can do something to save someone’s life. Give the gift of life by donating blood at West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre on Tuesday 29 August, from 10am to 3pm.
Trust Teina charitable trust, with New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) and West Wave, is holding a blood drive in memory of Teina Terei – the much-loved son of entertainer Pio Terei and his wife Debbie.
Teina died of leukaemia last year at the age of 17.
Leith Hurst, West Wave’s team leader of fitness, says Teina was a beloved member of the team.
“Teina was a huge part of the west Auckland community. He and his older brother, Dalton, worked here at West Wave,” he says.
“Teina worked in our recreation centre but he would often sit and chat with the team at reception. He would also spend hours at the gym working out. We would all look forward to Teina’s arrival after school, as he made everyone’s day brighter.”
NZBS will also be looking to increase their bone marrow donation register, and are particularly seeking 18 to 40-year-old males of Māori and Pacific Island descent.
The blood drive will take place inside the recreation centre at 20 Alderman Drive, Henderson. Come down and give a little blood to help save a life.
You can register in advance online.
