Draft plan change signals improvements for Hobsonville Corridor

Published: 3 November 2017

Feedback is invited on a draft plan change for the Hobsonville Corridor area adjacent to Whenuapai until Monday 20 November.

The draft plan change, approved for public feedback by the council's Planning Committee earlier in October, adds a new sub-precinct to the existing precinct in the Auckland Unitary Plan and a transport plan for the new sub-precinct.

Changes include improving land use outcomes by providing road connections in the new sub-precinct as well as design criteria for buildings located along Hobsonville Road. Standards for buildings sharing boundaries with Hobsonville Primary School are also included.

Planning Committee member and ward councillor John Watson said the proposed changes will go some way toward improving design outcomes for development along Hobsonville Road.

"The sub-precinct was originally in the Auckland Unitary Plan but was deleted by the Independent Hearings Panel," he said. "Through this plan change we are introducing the ability to achieve more integrated development outcomes for buildings fronting Hobsonville Road and adjacent to Hobsonville Primary School."

The draft plan change also proposes changes to the existing Hobsonville Corridor Precinct for land northeast of Brigham Creek Road up to Memorial Park Lane, making the provisions clearer and more consistent with other precincts across Auckland.
