Stuck for ideas these holidays? Auckland Libraries has your summer sorted with a great range of fun and free activities, events and services on offer.

Whether you’re staycationing in Auckland or heading out of town, there’s something for the whole family.

Head to the beach with your favourite eBook or challenge yourself with the Great Summer Read, while the kids keep busy and entertained with the Kia Māia te Whai Dare to Explore reading adventure. This free, summer reading programme is an easy and fun way for your 5-12-year olds to beat boredom and is designed to foster kids’ love of learning and can help maintain reading levels over the holidays.

With over 60 challenges to complete, there’s plenty for kids of every interest, plus they can share the fun and invite friends to sign up as well. Activities can be completed wherever, whenever – at the library, online, on holiday, at home, in English or Te Reo Maōri.

And we’re not leaving you adults or teens out, you’re covered with The Great Summer Read He Pānuitanga Raumati, a summer programme to get you into the reading habit. Check out the list of challenges online or at your local library; complete as many or few as you like. Every book you read gets you an entry into weekly prize draws for books and tickets to Auckland’s hottest shows and attractions, while reading five books will put you in the bonus draw for eReaders, restaurant gift cards, and even free designer glasses (eye test included)!
