Tips to reach your personal best

Nothing feels better than when you achieve your personal best.

It’s one of the best ways to motivate yourself when it comes to exercising. Whether it’s to run an extra minute on the treadmill, try a new group fitness class or get back into swimming; whatever you attempt to do can be rewarding and fun.

Here are some tips to get you on the way to achieving your PB:

1. Set small goals

Make a list of your fitness goals and break them down into small achievable steps. Having a plan helps you have clarity on what you want to achieve.

2. Do something you enjoy

As the saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. If you do something that you enjoy, you are more likely to stick at it.

3. Workout with a buddy

Exercising with a buddy or as part of a group will enhance your motivation to get active and achieve your fitness goals. “Working out together helps you have more fun, commitment, motivation and resilience, which ultimately helps you to achieve better results,” says Auckland Council Leisure fitness lead Ritua Ali’iva’a.

4. Have a good workout playlist

Listening to music during exercise can lead to a better workout. It releases feel-good emotions to boost your mood, combat fatigue and help you push yourself harder.
