Shoal Bay wharf gets upgrade

Closures may be necessary

Published: 8 May 2018

Regular maintenance work on Shoal Bay Wharf on Aotea Great Barrier Island is scheduled for four weeks and will begin on 14 May.

The area will be open but short closures may occur for safety reasons.

The work includes replacing fender piles, most bracing with hardwood, all fittings with stainless steel and ladders with aluminium, the shelter roof and the barrier chain with a gate.

Redundant piles, sleeve balances and old bollards will be removed and two new bollards will be installed. Additional piles will be created to strengthen the decking.

Work on the Shoal Bay wharf follows similar upgrading at Whangaparapara.
