Time running out to have your say on Auckland’s budget

Publish Date : 06 Mar 2019

Aucklanders are being urged to have their say on the council’s 2019/2020 annual budget before consultation closes at the end of next week.

So far 1,547 people have given the council their opinions and feedback since the consultation opened on 17 February.  The main topics for consultation are:

  • Ratings of religious use properties
  • Introduction/cessation of some targeted rates
  • Increases to some fees to maintain cost recovery

A total of 29 events have already been held across the region with a further 30 more opportunities for Aucklanders to have their say in person, before the consultation closes on 17 March.

“We’ve had some interesting conversations with Aucklanders giving us their opinions and views on the annual budget and water discussion document, so we’re encouraging others to join the conversation and make sure their voice is heard too,” says Head of Engagement Kenneth Aiolupotea.

In addition to the annual budget, Aucklanders also have the chance to have their say on the future of Auckland’s water.

Water is a precious resource and we need to look after it. Auckland Council would like residents’ input and feedback to help develop a water strategy for Tāmaki Makaurau/ Auckland to help address water issues in our region.

Consultation on the 2019/2020 annual budget is open until 17 March 2019.  Feedback can be given online at akhaveyoursay.nz, by emailing akhaveyoursay@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or at one of the many events being run across the region.  Details of forthcoming events can be found at akhaveyoursay.nz.

Feedback forms and supporting information will also be available at libraries, local board offices and service centres, can be requested by emailing akhaveyoursay@aucklandconcil.govt.nz or calling 09 301 0101.

Following consultation, all feedback will be considered, and our Annual Budget 2019/2020 will be adopted in June. Our decisions will be widely communicated, and a summary report will be available online.

The annual budget consultation closes on 17 March 2019 and the Our Water Future consultation closes on 19 April 2019.
