Planning kicks off for Waiuku Sports Park
Representatives from Franklin Local Board, Waiuku Rugby Club and Waiuku College after the signing of the new agreement.

Franklin Local Board, the Waiuku Districts Rugby Club, and Waiuku College/the Ministry of Education have agreed to guiding principles for a partnership that will encourage better recreation and sports facility use.

The agreement also included confirmation of a multi-sport concept plan for Waiuku Sports Park.

Plans include a car park with landscaping and lighting, a plaza, sealed road access to the rugby club, footpath connections, upgrades to the No. 1 and school fields, new lighting, and two team changing rooms.

Franklin Local Board Chair Andy Baker says it’s a pragmatic and unique solution providing greater access and sharing of facilities.

“It’s the best way to spend the limited funds brought through from the legacy council to actually provide greater sports field, outdoor courts and indoor gymnasium facilities,” he says.
