Vector Lights on Auckland’s Harbour Bridge can still operate under the red traffic light setting and the busy light show season will continue.

Aucklanders can enjoy the regular shows from around the Waitematā Harbour and everyone is encouraged to find a safe, socially distanced place to view the shows.

Waitangi

Waitangi Day is always a special day for all New Zealanders. It is a day to remember and celebrate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and the coming together of Māori and Pākeha. 182 years on from that momentous occasion we can still celebrate that through the Vector Lights show as we consider how Te Tiriti can be a guiding light for us into the future. This year’s show is a repeat of the 2021 Matariki show which creatively tells the pepeha (tribal lineage) of iwi manaaki (host iwi) Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.

Dates: 2–7 February 2022,

Times: 9pm – 11.59pm, repeated every 30 minutes

Lantern Festival

Chinese New Year starts on 1 February and Vector Lights are joining in the celebrations that will be occurring across Asia with a light show to welcome in the year of the tiger. While the Auckland Lantern Festival has been cancelled, everyone is encouraged to head down to the waterfront and enjoy the show as the lights on the harbour bridge come together to form lanterns that float into the night sky.

Dates: 9 – 13 February 2022,

Times: 9pm – 11.59pm, repeated every 30 minutes

Pride

February is Pride Month and 2022 is a special year, marking 50 years of Pride in Tāmaki Makaurau. While Pride month events have been cancelled, the harbour bridge will still be lit in vibrant rainbow colours to celebrate Auckland’s amazing and beautiful LGBTQIA+ community.

Dates: 21 – 27 February 2022,

Times: 9pm – 11.59pm, repeated every 30 minutes
