Rodney Local Board office opens in Warkworth

The new Rodney Local Board office in Warkworth has been blessed and opened.

Ngāti Manuhiri, Auckland Council elected members and staff attended a blessing conducted by Matanga – Tikanga me Te Reo Maori Richard Nahi.

The new facility, at 3 Elizabeth Street, features office space for the local board and staff, and a dedicated local board meeting room.

Matanga Richard Nahi spoke the whakawatea blessing making the new space ready for the local board, and preparing it for them to work together and deliver good outcomes for the Rodney community.

Chair Brent Bailey says finally the office is physically located in the local board area as recommended by the Local Government Commission in 2018.

“We have shared office space for almost 12 years with the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board in Ōrewa.

"There are many happy memories from our time together based at the council’s Ōrewa Service Centre. For some people, those memories go even further back as the building housed the former Rodney District Council for many years.

“Now it’s time to say goodbye and welcome to a fresh start in a modern new workspace. The new fit-for-purpose space for the local board and staff is ready for us to work together and deliver results for our Rodney community.”

The public can continue to access council-wide services just five minutes away in Baxter Street at the Warkworth Service Centre and Warkworth Library as the local board office does not provide these services.

The new board room will cater for the monthly local board business meetings which are open to the public. It will be equipped with audio/visual technology that allows online virtual meetings to be held. Access by the public at other times will be by appointment.
