The recent decision by Mayor Wayne Brown and Councillors, to proceed with changes to the council’s CCO model, signalled a new phase for our programme to strengthen the Auckland Council Group.
Auckland Council Chief Executive Phil Wilson has announced the appointment of a Transition Director, who will oversee the creation and implementation of a transition programme for this work.
“I am pleased to be able to announce the appointment of David Rankin as the Transition Director who will lead this next stage.
“David has been the Chief Executive of Eke Panuku Development Auckland for the last six years and before that was Chief Executive of Auckland Council Property Limited and Auckland City Council.
“David’s depth of experience in local government organisations spans leadership, establishment and transformation roles, making him an exceptional candidate to lead the programme ahead of us,” says Mr Wilson.
Mr Rankin will continue to be chief executive of Eke Panuku while he holds the Transition Director role.
When preparing the background information and advice for elected members to make their decision, staff emphasised that the approach they would take would be principled and purpose-led. Those principles are:
-
Realising the objectives and benefits of reform for Aucklanders
-
Acting in good faith and treating staff well
-
Collaboration with CCOs, staff and other important stakeholders
-
Moving quickly and carefully to provide certainty and maintain continuity of services
-
Retaining what is working well about existing models.
“David and the team he will bring together in the new year will work towards delivery of the programme by mid-2025. This will include working with staff from across the council group to help shape the new model and ensure we are well prepared to deliver for Auckland.”
