Construction on Panmure’s new town square is getting underway from mid-2025 – with a new community space that celebrates the view of the Panmure Basin Te Kōpua Kai a Hiku.

The new square will bring locals together in the heart of the town for community activities and events.

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Chair Maria Meredith says the new town centre will a fantastic asset for Panmure.

“The new town square will transform Panmure and bring the community together. Eke Panuku Development Auckland are doing lots of fantastic transformational work in Panmure, and it’s exciting to move into the next phase of the redevelopment.”

Construction from June

Physical work will start in mid-2025, and will take place over an eight–12-week period, with the buildings from 71-79 on Queens Road being deconstructed and the town square built during that time.

As part of the upgrade work, there will be noise disruption, and access disruptions in Korma Lane, with work vehicles accessing and removing materials from the site.

A vision for the future

The project is being carried out by Eke Panuku Development Auckland. The Basin View precinct is one of many projects planned for Panmure over the next decade.

The town square marks the start of the development of a Basin View precinct, which sits between Queens Road and Lagoon Drive in Panmure.

The precinct aims to create residential, recreational, and public realm developments to support Queens Road and a thriving community in Panmure.
