As the Upper Harbour Ethnic Peoples Plan takes shape, residents are invited to join community conversations taking place in May across the Upper Harbour area.
Upper Harbour Local Board chairperson Anna Atkinson says the plan is being developed with The Asian Network Incorporated (TANI) and it is time to hear from residents to make sure the plan meets their needs.
“Around 45 per cent of our residents identify as Asian, compared to 31 per cent across Auckland.
“As a local board, we really want to listen, learn, and support the needs of our diverse communities.
“We’re creating this plan together to build an Upper Harbour area that feels more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.”
The five-year plan will guide long-term support for ethnic communities leading to local services and programmes that better reflect the community’s diverse needs. An ethnic leadership group will guide, and champion the implementation of the plan.
Atkinson says that along with residents, people who work in Upper Harbour should come along to the community workshops happening in Albany, Meadowood, Greenhithe and Hobsonville. Local organisations are also hosting several workshops.
"We’ve heard from many voices in shaping this exciting new plan and now we’d like to hear from you too. Your ideas can really help make it even stronger. Come be part of the conversation!"
