Shoreside Theatre’s aspiration is to present genuine Shakespeare and, in this 23rd consecutive summer Shakespeare season, it’s all the more entertaining and dramatic for that.

With alternating performances in The PumpHouse Amphitheatre, you have the choice of a great history play, Henry V or his best comedy, Twelfth Night – or both.

Shakespeare would be pretty pleased that his plays are being professionally performed and stay true to his visualizations.

With the 2019 season of Auckland Shakespeare in the Park at The PumpHouse, there is no trivialization of the writings of the man which made his name perhaps the best-known on the planet. Shoreside Theatre’s January and February presentations of Henry V and Twelfth Night being true to his visualizations are all the more entertaining and enthralling for that.

Henry V celebrates one of the most charismatic monarchs in British history and is a great patriotic drama. How rousing, then; “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more” and the famous St Crispin’s Day speech “We few, we happy few.”

In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare has Cupid, the god of love working overtime and uses intrigue and disguise to create sublimely farcical situations including an entangled love triangle. Many hilarious situations of mistaken identity ensue.

The 2019 season starts with Twelfth Night on Saturday 12 January (very appropriately) and, with alternating performances of Henry V, you have the choice of a gripping history play or Shakespeare’s best comedy – or both.

Buy tickets by Friday 21 December and you can get great early bird discounts. Why not give your family and friends a different Christmas gift that will transport them to the magical world of theatre? It’s easy. Recipients can decide which nights they wish to attend and are able to make changes up to 24 hours before a performance.
