Jewellery is never worn on its own; it is used to enhance the beauty or aesthetics of the subject.
This exhibition is for small-but-perfectly-formed taonga whakarākei.
It is a celebration of Māori jewellery.
It will shed light on kaupapa Māori and contemporary approaches to creating tāhei or neck ornaments, whakakai – earrings, or heru – hair combs.
Featuring carving or whakairo practice as well as raranga or weaving practices this exhibition is an enchanting reminder to dress well.
Presented as part of Matariki Festival 2019.
