Pop-up Globe’s celebration farewell Auckland season, The Summer of Love presented by Anthony Harper, kicks off on 13 December.

Headlined by a brand new production of Romeo & Juliet directed by Dr Miles Gregory.

Justly regarded as Shakespeare’s tragic masterpiece, Romeo and Juliet enchant audiences with a spell-binding mix of comedy, love, poetry and – ultimately – tragedy.

Balancing the tragic with comedy is a Pop-up Globe specialty.

Accompanying is a revival of our most popular show ever, Miriama McDowell’s Much Ado About Nothing an invitation to a joyful and uproarious house party, combining live music, dance and spectacular costumes in a South Pacific setting!

Closing out the season, Pop-up Globe is excited to announce the international debut of the London smash hit Emilia, by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, set to take the stage on March 2020 at the Anthony Harper Pop-up Globe Theatre.

400 years ago, in Shakespeare’s London, Emilia Bassano wanted her voice to be heard. It wasn’t.

Could she have been the “Dark Lady” of Shakespeare’s sonnets? What of her own poems?

Why was her story erased from history?

Emilia and her sisters reach out to us across the centuries with passion, fury, laughter and song.

Listen to them.

Let them inspire and unite us.

Shows run for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including a short interval. For a breakdown of shows and dates please visit popupglobe.co.nz

Directed by award-winning kiwi director and actor Miriama McDowell and featuring a diverse cast of powerful women, Emilia is a theatrical spectacular that “rouses its audience to a pitch of fervour” (The Guardian), and is “a firecracker of a play” (The Times).

Once the season closes, the theatre will Pop-down ready to embark on its overseas adventures.

There can be no extensions. Secure your seats today before the season sells out.

We are delighted our Foundation Sponsor Anthony Harper will be presenting the season, and to celebrate our remarkable partnership, for our farewell NZ season we are renaming our Auckland playhouse the Anthony Harper Pop-up Globe theatre.
