Since March 2019, we have been clearing invasive plant species and made good progress with planting a number of native plants on the site.

We’ve also discovered that the harakeke that growing there is of a high quality.

We’ll continue cleaning up harakeke stands as well as clearing the wild ginger onsite. Come down and give us a hand!

Things to bring:

  • suitable closed-toed footwear – gumboots or boots
  • clothing appropriate for the weather
  • reusable water bottle
  • sun protection

Please register to reserve your sausage sizzle, and let us know of any additional food requirements.

About Te Ara Awataha

As part of the wider Te Ara Awataha, Kaipātiki Project is working on a community-led restoration of the Jessie Tonar Scout Reserve.

This bush-clad reserve at the end of Kākā Street is home to the source of the Awataha Stream and has deep significance to local Mana Whenua.

The flow-on effects from Te Ara Awataha will be significant, contributing to numerous ecological and social improvements the whole community will benefit from for years to come.
