The two days for this intensive will be on the 24 and 25 of October.

Whether you are just thinking about keeping bees or have just started, we will cover all the subjects you need to know about including:

  • Setting up a hive
  • Hive hardware
  • Maintaining the hive
  • Managing the queen
  • Resolving any problems
  • Harvesting honey

Spring has kicked off strongly and the bees are busy building up for a harvest of honey. Book your space now to prepare yourself for a livelong journey.

Tutor: Dave Grant

Dave Grant is a Kaipātiki resident with seven years beekeeping experience. He’s earnt his badges of honour by receiving lots of stings, being experimental with his hives and certainly knows how to collect a tricky swarm.

Working closely with Bayview Primary School, Dave has been responsibly for overseeing the successful installation of their hives and bringing to life the wonderful world of bees to our local children.

Dave has been leading the Kaipatiki Project beekeeping courses for the last three years and founded the swarm collection network, BeeSwarm in 2017, rescuing bees from all over Auckland.

His classes are informative, filled with real life examples, and highly practical. Many of his participants have enjoyed learning the basics, while others have gone on to become confident and successful beekeepers,

Guest speakers often join the sessions to share their experiences and participants also get to enjoy a variety of different honey samples at various tastings.
