The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical Mary Poppins is practically perfect family entertainment, with shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Civic.

Also in the city centre, Basement Theatre has some interesting shows on Friday and Saturday evening. Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont-Spelling Bee fuses two of New Zealand's great passions, comedy and spelling, while Our Modern Earth uses recycled materials and dance to explore one of the greatest threats to mankind, climate change.

On Friday or Saturday night, prepare for laughter, puppetry and a dash of Indian disco with Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream at TAPAC in Western Springs and Autonomy fuses contemporary, hip-hop, urban movement and modern dance for an entertaining night out at the Raye Freedman Arts Centre in Newmarket.

The Off Broadway Theatre's Big Band Weekend in Papakura on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon serves up a big range of tunes and songs to suit all tastes, while Viola and Piano Duo at Rannoch in Epsom offers an intimate chamber recital at the art-filled private heritage residence on Monday evening.
