Activities

Find out what’s on offer in your local community to help you restore nature, reduce waste, ride and fix bikes, and live more sustainably at home.

Nature

Join the EcoMatters Nature team to try your hand at potting up baby plants for our native plant nursery.

Learn about pest tracking and trapping, and put together a rat trap with Pest Free Whau.

Drop by for a chat about tackling weeds, native plants, trapping pests, or looking after our streams.

Waste

Bring your old toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes, writing instruments, empty ecostore bottles, popped inflatable pool toys and more to our pop-up recycling station (see here for what you can recycle at the EcoHub).

Talk to EcoMatters Waste experts SJ and Tom about reducing waste at home and out and about, what you can and can’t recycle, composting, and any other waste questions on your mind.

Bikes

The EcoMatters Bike Hub will be open for:

  • used bikes for sale and loan
  • free help with basic bike servicing
  • maps and route information
  • bike parts and accessories
  • novelty bikes to try

Homes

Visit the EcoMatters Homes team for great budget-friendly tips on keeping your home warm and dry throughout the year. We are also experts on how to be a water-conscious kiwi and can support you to get your water bills under control.

Shop

Browse the great range of products that will support your sustainable lifestyle at the EcoMatters Store, including a specials table! All proceeds from store sales help fund EcoMatters projects.

For kids

There’s plenty to keep the little ones entertained, including games and activities, kids bikes to try, as well as a kids' learn to ride activity.

For lost children at the event, see the Event Info Station.

Eat and drink

Fill your plate with a variety of authentic dishes and snacks from around the world from WISE Collective.

Keep cool with Little Island ice creams, Nice Blocks, Phoenix Organics drinks and Good Buzz Kombucha from the EcoMatters Store.

Get your coffee or hot chocolate fix from the enthusiastic superhero baristas of Hero Coffee.

Zero waste event

Please help us make this a zero waste event by bringing your reusable shopping bag, water bottle and reusable coffee mug. Even better, bring your own reusable plate/container and cutlery too. You’ll be able to wash up all your reusables at our Wash Against Waste station.

Getting here

We recommend coming by bike, on foot or by public transport as there is no onsite parking and street parking is limited.

We are less than 10 minutes walk from the New Lynn Transport Centre, and some bus routes stop even closer. Plan your journey at at.govt.nz.

Plenty of bike parking available on site.
