Grab your skateboard, your friends and head over to Western Reserve for Indie Sensations Surf Friends, Dead Favours and local singer/ songwriter Tim Prier.

Surf Friends have it all; the sea, the sand, reverberating guitars, bass, synth keyboard and looped samples.

The two-piece of Brad Coley and Pete Westmoreland formed in 2009, with their distinct take on the best post-punk inspirations and surf psychedelia to match.

These two create a very large sound and an onstage performance to match, perfect for inspiring youth.

Auckland band Dead Favours are no strangers to Kiwi airwaves. Their debut single Dig, in 2017, was an instant hit spending 27 weeks in the charts.

A succession of singles and their debut album Misbehaviour quickly followed. Since then, the band has racked up an impressive 1.5 million combined streams on Spotify. Radio hit singles include On Your Own, High Flying and Noise Beers.

Through the Covid-19 lockdowns, they’ve written and recorded the first instalment of their sophomore album with Chris Mac (Six60) and Neil Baldock. They’re excited about entering this new phase for the band especially with the addition of Alex Ferrier (Skinny Hobos) on bass.

Local singer and songwriter Tim Prier has gigs on the coast, around Auckland and his very own Live in the Neighbourhood series on Facebook. He says, “Describing my sound is like trying to pick what to watch on Netflix, I love playing and writing so many different styles.”

So, get ready to enjoy the live music, the skate park and between acts the beach. On sale are ice creams from Cinta Caravan, seafood from Catch'ya Cookout, corn fritters from The Corner and coffee from Coffee on the Coast.

Brought to you by Hibiscus and Bays Local Board, this free music event focusses on youth and showcases local and emerging talent.
