Centre plan to help shape Milford
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair Joseph Bergin says the Milford Centre Plan reflects locals’ aspirations for the area.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board has adopted the Milford Centre Plan, which will enhance Milford over the next 30 years and help make the town centre a friendly and accessible space with a strong local identity.

The plan has five objectives:

  • developing a vibrant plaza on Kitchener Road
  • making Kitchener Road more pedestrian friendly
  • building connections between quality destinations
  • promoting a healthy and attractive Wairau Estuary
  • telling local stories.

Development of the plan began in 2014 following a community-led visioning report by the Milford Village Forum. A working party was then formed, made up of representatives from the village forum, the Milford Residents’ Association, Castor Bay Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association, and the Milford Business Association.

“We now have a centre plan that accurately reflects local values and aspirations for Milford,” says local board chair Joseph Bergin. “The plan will provide guidance for adapting to growth pressures and opportunities, while respecting and protecting Milford’s cherished heritage.”
