Waitematā Local Board has been working with the parks teams, designers, local community groups and schools to improve what’s on offer at some of playgrounds in parks in Auckland central.

As a result, the colourful new playground at Myers Park was recently awarded top honours at the Resene Total Colour Awards, winning the Master Nightingale award and Total Colour Landscape award.

Judges described the project as, "Alice in Wonderland meets Dr Seuss. A collection of park play pieces that are brought to life with bold, energising colour."

Tole Reserve playground in Grey Lynn is another fantastic play area based on the theme of ‘Get Moving.’ Equipment is designed for kids of all ages, so there are spring seats that only hold up little ones, a flying fox for children of a certain height, and a half basketball court for the older kids to run around on.

The Tole Reserve basketball court features a painted bike track painted on it. The track replicates a city street with features such as stop signs and zebra crossings.

The kids will also love what's on offer at Costley Reserve in Freemans Bay, where local school children helped design elements of the large adventure playground.
