Over the past five years, excellent progress has been made on many important projects in the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board area.

The local board has worked alongside community partners to deliver and fund these projects which are so essential to the fastest growing area in Auckland, says Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Chairperson Julia Parfitt.

“We are proud to live in one of the best parts of Auckland and we cherish our lifestyle so closely linked to the coast. We completed the Gulf Harbour Breakwater, giving boaties an easy way to launch and retrieve their boats in all weather and all tides.

"We replaced the collapsed Murrays Bay Seawall with a new masonry wall, new steps and adjoining path. We are rebuilding the Murrays Bay Wharf and we’re consulting on plans for the northern end of Ōrewa Beach.

“In 2012, we developed our area plan, in consultation with our community, which outlines how the Hibiscus and Bays is envisaged to change over the next 30 years. It’s important that we retain the character unique to each of our town centres and coastal villages, while making them even more attractive places to shop and do business.

"Centre plans have been developed for Silverdale and Ōrewa with work starting on the Browns Bay Centre Plan," says Ms Parfitt.

“Easy access to recreation and to open spaces is important to our residents. Investment in the Metropark multi-sports facility and reserves in Long Bay will ensure residents in these new subdivisions have easy access to leisure activities. We’ve also replaced East Coast Bays Leisure Centre’s roof and playground, which is well used by the crèche.

“We are grateful to the many volunteers and community groups who work closely with us and through their hard work make such an outstanding contribution to our area.”
