Students bring art to the city

Students from the Elam School of Fine Arts have joined forces with Auckland Transport (AT), Auckland Council and Panuku Development Auckland to hold an exhibition in one of the buildings closed to make way for the City Rail Link (CRL) development.

The exhibition runs from Friday 16 September to Saturday 1 October at 223 Symonds Street.

Working together

The students have helped tidy the building in exchange for using it. Over the past two weeks, the building has been painted, and its electrics repaired, lighting installed and broken windows fixed.

"The exhibition will showcase a series of art works, discussions, workshops and live performance art," says Elam student Holly Gillard.

"We're also collaborating with the Symonds Street Junction Community Garden to hold planting events and serve herbal teas to celebrate the arrival of spring.”

Building available for rent

When the exhibition is over the building will be available for rent.

The exhibition, What do I want? Where do I stand? opens at 223 Symonds Street on Friday 16 September and runs until 1 October, Wednesday through Sunday between 11am and 4pm.

All events are free.
