Excited children and their parents joined the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board for a celebration at the upgraded playground at Sherwood Reserve, Browns Bay.

Throughout the day, children were enchanted by the troubadour and actors with face painters and a bubble blower all adding to the entertainment.

Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Chairperson Julia Parfitt thanks everyone involved in the playground upgrade and says that investing in local playgrounds is a focus for the local board. “We know how important it is to be able to bring families and neighbours together to have fun outdoors and with no added pressures around cost.”

Congratulations to Albie Hine (9) who won the best dressed competition and received a $50 voucher to a Browns Bay cafe.

The playground upgrades are in keeping with the Sherwood Forest theme and include a bird’s nest tower, large wooden castle, thrones, picnic tables and a set of medieval stocks. Inmates from the Northland Regional Corrections Facility carved much of the wooden equipment. Imaginative play equipment suggested by Northcross Intermediate Students includes a 30m obstacle course that children can cross without touching the ground.

People also gave feedback on a new toilet to be located near the castle at the edge of the car park. The toilet will have two accessible cubicles, one with a baby change station. The chosen design is in keeping with the Sherwood Forest theme. The toilet is expected to be installed by next winter subject to consents.
