Work to upgrade Sunnynook Park on the North Shore will start soon.

The upgrade will include stormwater improvements, new sports fields and lighting, improvements to pedestrian and cycle paths, and new seating, exercise equipment and playground features.

The stormwater work is due to run from October until spring 2018. It will involve excavating the park to reduce the chance of flooding and improve drainage.

The floodwall on Sycamore Drive will also be upgraded.

New sand-carpet sports fields

Once the stormwater works are completed, new sand-carpet sports fields will be installed, along with floodlights, goal posts and cricket blocks.

The playground will be built between May and June this year.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair Grant Gillon says the project is great news for Sunnynook.

“These works will not only improve the park’s appeal, amenity and usability, they will address flood risks at the park and surrounding area."

Access disruptions to be minimised

“During the works, there will be some unavoidable disruptions for local residents and park users."

“These are likely to include traffic inconveniences, construction noise, and having parts of the park closed off."

“We will do our utmost to ensure works are undertaken smartly, completed quickly and disruption is minimised.”

All works are expected to be completed by March 2019.
