If you have a dog, its registration should have been renewed by 1 August.

Quick facts and how to pay

Working to ensure dogs are registered

In September, Auckland Council Animal Management staff will be contacting owners of registered dogs that haven’t been renewed and looking out for dogs that have never been registered

Renewing online is easy

Almost 70,000 Aucklanders renewed their dog registration in July and August. More than one-third of these renewals were done online.

However, around 30,000 dogs still haven't been registered.

What to do if you've lost your dog registration paperwork

Call Auckland Council on 09 301 0101 and we'll send you a copy of the renewal notice by email or regular mail.

The renewal reference number can be provided over the phone.

Please note: we'll ask you a few questions to confirm that you are the registered dog owner.

Keeping Aucklanders safe

Dog registration fees cover a range of services and help keep Aucklanders safe from dog-related nuisance and harm.

Auckland Council Animal Management Manager Tracey Moore says there are responsibilities that come with dog ownership.

“Unfortunately these responsibilities aren’t always met. At the moment around 70 per cent of the dogs impounded in Auckland each year haven’t been registered or de-sexed."
