Have you seen our zines?

Auckland Libraries has more than 1000 local and international zines that you can browse or borrow. They are housed at the Central Library, but most of them can be delivered to any branch.

Zines (pronounced ‘zeens’) are self-published works, usually with a small circulation.

Their simple and low-cost production gives independent and minority artists and writers a format to record and distribute their work outside of traditional and often restricted publishing circles.

Auckland Libraries’ collection is based on a bulk donation received from the Cross Street Studios Zine Library when it closed in 2010. It has been added to by personal donations and the Spacething and Audio Foundation zine libraries were also added to the collection in 2016.

The collection continues to grow and still accepts donations.

Our collection includes zines on a variety of subjects, including politics, personal narrative, visual art, music, cooking, recycling and more.
