Thunderstorms may cause dogs to bolt

Auckland Council’s Animal Management team is preparing for a busy period as they work to reunite run-away dogs with their owners after today’s thunderstorms.

Nikki Marchant-Ludlow, Manager Animal Management, says dogs that are microchipped and registered have the best chance of being reunited quickly with their families.

What to do if your dog goes missing

“If your dog goes missing – or if you find a lost dog – the best thing to do is call us on 0800 462 685. It also pays to ask on social media to see if anyone has found your pet."

"Local community Facebook pages and community sites such as Neighbourly or Pets on the Net can be a useful way of letting people know your pet is lost and of finding them,” she says.

Renew your dog's registration on the Auckland Council website or update your contact details if they have changed.
