Manurewa Station electronic ticket gates go live today

To help improve safety and reduce fare evasion, electronic ticket gates have been installed at Manurewa Train Station.

The gates mean customers will need a valid AT HOP card or paper ticket to access the station. The two existing southern entrances will now only be used as emergency exits.

Manurewa Local Board Chair Angela Dalton says, “Improving safety at our train stations is a priority for the Local Board.

“We value our partnership with Auckland Transport who are providing an efficient delivery time on our train station projects, the electronic ticketing gates being another key milestone for us.”

Electronic gates are now installed at seven stations across the network: Britomart, Newmarket, New Lynn, Manukau, Henderson, Ōtāhuhu and Manurewa.

SaFE project

Under Auckland Transport’s Safety and Fare Enforcement (SaFE) project, electronic ticket gates have already been installed at Henderson and Ōtāhuhu stations.

SaFE is a joint commitment between AT and passenger rail operator, Transdev Auckland to deliver initiatives that will improve customer experience, increase security and safety, and reduce vandalism and fare evasion. The project also sees the phased introduction of up to 230 Transport Officers.

The next stations that will be getting electronic ticket gates are Papatoetoe, Middlemore, Parnell, Papakura and Glen Innes, and once completed, 90 percent of train passengers will have to go through electronic gates.
