The Auckland Bike Challenge is back

Published: 11 January 2018

Is your new year's resolution to ride your bike more? For some extra motivation, sign up to the Auckland Bike Challenge.

Last year, more than 3,500 people got on their bikes in February and logged rides.

Auckland Council's cycling champion, Councillor Chris Darby, says the challenge is a great way to give bike riding a go and he encourages workmates and employers to take part this year.

"Rally your workplace, sign up online and log your rides throughout February. It's that easy.

"The bike challenge is a great way for businesses to team up with staff, have some summer fun and give biking to work under the summer sun a go.

"Last year, more than 900 new riders gave cycling a go, and 324 companies across Auckland signed up, so come join us."

Auckland Transport's Walking, Cycling and Road Safety Manager Kathryn King says in the three years the challenge has been run by AT, more and more people have taken part.

"We've had great feedback from people who have participated that the challenge was a great way to encourage them to ride a bike more regularly, and it gave them the confidence to keep riding after the challenge finished," she says.

"With more and more connections being built in Auckland's cycling network, it is becoming much easier for people to get on a bike and travel around the region."
