Auckland’s biggest summer entertainment series announced.

With the arrival of the kiwi summer comes Music and Movies in Parks, Auckland’s biggest entertainment series of the year. The Auckland Council series brings 24 free music events and 26 free outdoor movies to Auckland’s local parks and reserves from January to April.

Music in Parks

The 2019 Music in Parks line-up has something for all musical tastes; whether you’re a fan of pop and rock, reggae and RnB, or jazz and opera. Experience top performers from big-name artists to locally grown talent.

Movies in Parks

Movies in Parks takes the fun of the cinema outdoors – from new releases to old favourites, we’re putting on a free movie night for the whole neighbourhood. Pack a picnic, torch, warm clothes and watch your favourite movies under the stars. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Grease and The Incredibles 2 are just a few of the great movies in the series.

Movies kick off once the sun sets, but the fun starts early with pre-movie entertainment, themed to each movie; jump into the ring for circus games at The Greatest Showman or race through an obstacle course at Jumanjii: Welcome to the Jungle.

Creating a sense of community

Councillor Cathy Casey, Chairperson of the Community Development and Safety Committee is looking eagerly to the series.

“Music and Movies in Parks is a staple of the Auckland summer and creates such a sense of community throughout the region,” she says.

"The event truly showcases the best of Auckland – family and friends coming together in our beautiful parks, enjoying great movies and home-grown kiwi artists – and all for free!”

“This coming series is especially exciting as Auckland is now a UNESCO City of Music. Music in Parks reflects the talent, creativity and vibrant musical culture that made us stand out on the world stage.”

Rob Hennin, CEO of nib New Zealand says they are delighted to be partnering with Movies in Parks again. “We’re thrilled to be back with the series as it aligns with our dedication to improving Kiwis’ daily lives and contributing to our local community. Through supporting Movies in Parks we’re helping Aucklander’s enjoy their summer and make the most of what’s on in their city.”

Thanks to our supporters

The Music and Movies in Parks series has come together thanks to Auckland’s Council’s major partner nib health insurance, as well as supporting partners MediaWorks, UNESCO, Menulog, TWoA, Globelet and More FM.
