$317,000 aid for Hibiscus and Bays community projects

Community groups have received $317,389.24 in grants in the last six months from Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.

Board chair Julia Parfitt says that grants encourage a sense of community and bring people together.

“We can inspire creativity, nurture local arts, heritage and sports and enhance our environment through the programme,” she says.

“It’s encouraging to empower community organisations to help people shape the area they live in.”

The board offers quick-response and local board grants and in the last six months, 73 organisations and groups have benefited.

Grants focus on the local board’s priorities and outcomes, and further grants will be announced next year.

A full list of grant recipients for 2018/2019 can be found in the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board business meeting minutes from August, October and November 2018.

People can seek a quick-response grant for up to $2000. The grants are offered up to three times a year.

Local board grants are for amounts of more than $2000 and are offered up to twice a year.

The board outlines its priorities for funding so they align to its outcomes and priorities, which are set out in the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Plan.
